Your Gratitude Determines Your Altitude 🔑

Welcome to another Big 3 Wednesday!

In this edition, you will learn how a Missy Elliott concert reminded me of the most important recipe for success, what's worth doing and the importance of smiling like you're 9 years old again.

Enjoy!

The Lesson 💡

Your Gratitude Determines Your Altitude

I went to Missy Elliott's Out of This World Concert in Montreal last weekend and it was LIT. 🔥

My girls are (almost) old enough to survive a night sans maman so I was thrilled to enjoy a night out and burn some calories to the beat of classic hip-hop and pop hits.

Busta Rhymes opened, followed by the electrifying Ciara aka Cici. Then, Missy Misdemeanor Elliott showed up and showed out! From All In My Grill, Hot Boys, Get Your Freak On, to Rain, we danced and screamed to our hearts' content.

Even after two decades in the game, I never take any of you for granted. I am so grateful for all of you. Thank you!” - Missy Elliott

As much as I enjoyed the performances, Missy's speech and attitude as she brought the concert to a close left the greatest impression on me. She seemed genuinely humbled by the enduring love her day-1 fans (as she called them) showed her. It was moving and inspiring.

Gratitude determines your altitude. I was reminded that greatness and success are no accident. And it’s no coincidence that gratitude is a common trait among the ultra-successful.

I am grateful to do this, write this newsletter and share it with you, live in a country where opportunities abound and have goals I can pursue. And above all, to have health, family, and faith.

What are you grateful for?

The Book 📕

Hell Yeah or No, What's Worth Doing, by Derek Sivers

I bought three of his books and learned a lot from each. Hell Year or No is a gem.

Derek Sivers was a musician, turned businessman, who sold his CD Baby business for 22 Million Dollars. He is now an author who writes succinctly, and beautifully about entrepreneurship and philosophy.

Here are three quotes from the book:

  • “A bad goal makes you say, “I want to do that some day.” A great goal makes you take action immediately

  • “We’re clearly bad judges of our own creations. We should just put them out there and let the world decide

  • “No matter what you tell the world or yourself your actions reveal your real values. your actions show you what you really want.”

The Strategy 🎯

Have More Joy: Smile like you're 9yo again

From 9 to 12 years old, I competed in the 100-meter dash race for my school. Track and field competitions were my happy place, and I was in my zone of genius when running the 100-meter dash.

Beautiful feeling: Watching the Olympics reignited my passion for running. I remembered how happy it made me. So I am getting back into it, 50-meter at a time. I now have a new and exciting reason to wake up every day. I want the same for you.

Get that joy back: What is the one thing that once made your 9-year-old self smile BIG? Identify it and commit to doing it at least once this week.

Thank you for reading.

Until next week,

Stay Consistent.
