Thank You For 25 Weeks 🎉
This is Number 25 Babyyyy!
The Lesson (s) ✍🏾
8 Things the Last 25 Weeks Taught Me
Instead of the usual lesson, book reco' and strategy, I give you eight things I learned since starting this newsletter. Take what you need and share it with others.
1. Use pressure as your ally: We underestimate how much we can achieve under pressure. If you want to speed up the process of anything, shorten the time between idea and execution. Add a tight deadline and watch yourself go, often past the goalpost.
2. We overthink things more than we should: Life is serious but thankfully, it is also simple. I continue to learn that most things are never as deep as I make them out to be. We complicate things unnecessarily. This is your sign to keep things simple so they can flourish.
3. Speak your truth: Your testimony can help someone else experience an important breakthrough. So don't let your indecisiveness and procrastination rob them of this gift. Have the courage, and the discipline to share your story, experiences and point of view. Free yourself, and free others.
4. Public accountability is powerful: We all have dreams, goals, and ideas we safeguard for the right time. This newsletter was one of them, but when I announced that I would share it, I was suddenly accountable to more people than myself, making it more difficult to drop the ball, and thankfully I didn't. We're only humans, after all. So leverage the power of community to stick to your goals.
5. Have a vision yet, remain flexible: The original concept for this newsletter was a bi-weekly email entitled the Unstuck. After sourcing feedback from many of you, I switched to a weekly basis and renamed it all for the better. The content has also evolved and continues to adapt. In short, allow your vision to take a new form. Be both firm and flexible, and allow yourself to shift when needed.
6. Keep your word to yourself: Keeping promises you make to yourself, big or small, especially when no one is watching, is a recipe for boosting your self-confidence and self-trust. Beyond becoming a trusted and reliable person/brand, consistently doing what you said you would - a workout, a phone call, a project, builds character and integrity. Practice keeping your word to yourself. It's a win-win.
7. Recognize the season you're in and adapt: It took me a few editions to realize and accept that writing on the go, although fulfilling for the creative in me, was no longer realistic for my busy career and Mom life. This was rough because I like being spontaneous when creating. However, resisting this fact was futile and led to countless frustrations and late editions. To adapt, I now give myself five minutes to voice-record the ideas and concepts as they come and revisit them at a later time set for writing. This way, I still get to be spontaneous while having a structure. Know the season you're in.
8. Embrace discipline and increase your creativity: I know first-hand how counterintuitive discipline can seem to creativity, but I promise you it has been a complete game-changer for me. I have now established Fridays before lunch, and Sundays while the children nap as my writing windows. These moments are booked and I make sure I don't skip them. Consistency thrives on discipline. Try it and watch your creativity soar.
I'd love to hear what you thought of this edition. Let me know.
Thank you for reading.
Until next week,
Stay Consistent.
